An intense economic and cultural interchange through the Mediterranean next to the incessant pilgrimage to Compostela from different points of Europe, added to the presence of the Arabs in the Iberian Peninsula during five hundred years, brought as result in the XII and XIII centuries, the appearance of rich song books that bloomed in the different scopes. Languedoc offers in this ocación an outlook of these repertoires taking as axis the court of Alfonso X of Castilla and Leon (1230-1284), called the Wise due to its enthusiastic interest in arts and sciences, testimony of which are his diverse treaties on these subjects.
